the most important thing?

he tangata, he tangata, he tangata: it is the people, it is the people, it is the people

At Tektus we focus on people - our people, our clients and our society; us.  This is underlined through our logo, which also points to where we're all based - our planet: the pale blue dot.  Through collaboration and a focus on people, while celebrating where we're from, we enjoy delivering the best and highest quality solutions for all.

Jack Turner - Director · Engineer · planner

Jack formed Tektus in early 2015 to shape a distinct multi-disciplinary consultancy practice with strong values and a focus on he tangata - the people.  With qualifications and experience over 10 years across engineering, environmental and planning disciplines and through roles in construction, local government and consultancy firms, Jack is well-placed to lead and develop Tektus into an effective, collaborative service provider to both public and private sector clients. Jack, his wife Dana and their son Toby live in Titirangi, Auckland, and enjoy the outdoors, mountain biking and the occasional game of Ultimate Frisbeee.

Emily Afoa - Partner ·  Engineer

Emily became a partner with Tektus in April 2018, and brings with her wide-ranging environmental and engineering experience gained through roles in tertiary institutions, local government, and consultancy firms. Emily has expertise in stormwater management, including with both traditional reticulated systems and water sensitive solutions - all underpinned by her Doctorate in civil engineering which focussed on the design and construction of living roofs in a New Zealand context. Emily's comprehensive professional experience has helped her become a well-respected and valued engineering professional in New Zealand and beyond, reinforced in 2017 when she received the CH2M Beca Young Water Professional of the Year award.  Emily, her husband James and step-daughter Maddisyn live in Mount Wellington with their two dogs; and all of whom make the most of New Zealand's great outdoors - whether that be on two feet, two wheels or a single board.

KELLY MCCABE - SENIOR PLANNER

Kelly joined our team at Tektus in 2017 as a senior planner, providing critical and immeasurable part-time support while juggling life with her family of five.  Her science background and wide-ranging knowledge across both regional and district level planning environments, and first-hand extensive experience in Auckland local government, along with Kelly's open, empathetic and clear-thinking persona, all contribute to making Kelly a fantastic and respected professional and pivotal member of our team.

LEWIS THOROGOOD - ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN

Lewis joined Tektus in 2017 as a part-time CAD and Civil3D specialist, drawing on his extensive design skills and practical experience to help the team deliver high quality drawing packages and engineering solutions.  Lewis moved into a full-time Engineering Technician role in July 2018 and continues to develop his skills, focussing on engineering design work. With tertiary training in both product design and primary education, Lewis has a broad and valuable skill set that makes him a unique professional.  His education training and first-hand teaching practice helps ensure a clarity of vision in both how Lewis operates and the work he delivers.  Outside of work, you'll typically find Lewis and his wife Rachael enjoying running their puppies ragged in parks around Auckland, or racing their mountain bikes around the country.

Hillary Johnston - environmental Specialist

Hillary joined Tektus in 2019 as an environmental specialist primarily with expertise in the stormwater, wastewater and industrial trade activities disciplines. Hillary brings more than 5 years of local government experience that includes specialist regional planning technical input, environmental compliance monitoring and enforcement. Hillary lives in the heart of Auckland City with her partner Chris both of whom are urban explorers with an appetite for great food and a craft beer or two.

TOM DAWSON - engineer

Tom joined Tektus in 2019 as an engineer and brings with him experience across a wide range of civil engineering projects, many with a focus on providing improved environmental outcomes. Tom’s technical expertise includes environmental design, including stream remediation design, stormwater pipe daylighting designs, stormwater reticulation network design, coastal outfall solutions, and site supervision. Tom has practical experience in previous contracting roles, working as an engineer on road maintenance contracts and the construction of larger scale works such as bridges and retaining walls. Outside of work, Tom together with his partner Sara enjoy hiking, playing the guitar, attending local theatre productions and camping around the country.

Dana Turner - PRACTICE SUPPORT MANAGER

Dana was instrumental in forming Tektus in 2015, and continues to play a pivotal guiding and support role for the team.  As a registered school teacher and sustainability educator, Dana knows all too well how to keep things in order, and puts her organisational and people skills to use on a daily basis to help our practice stay on track.  Dana is passionate about many things, including bee keeping, permaculture, other cultures and languages, hiking, and of course, our son Toby who arrived in early 2017.

RACHAEL THOROGOOD - OFFICE & ACCOUNTS MANAGER

Rachael joined our Tektus team part-time in 2018 and provides support and guidance across our accounts and office environments. Rachael draws on her extensive skill set and experience through many years in marketing roles in banking, telco and advertising, and is helping to guide us with invaluable advice for our company’s journey. Beyond the office, Rachael shares her passion for puppies and mountain biking with her husband Lewis, and together they make a formidable team - both in and out of work.
